If you are noticing changes in your skin, thinking it might be the change of season, your new diet or a product you've added to your facial routine. It could actually be that your skin is suffering the effects of your stress.
Stress causes an imbalance in your hormones, causing levels to fluctuate making changes in your body that can result in a number of skin problems. Irritations such as acne, psoriasis, hives, itching and thinning of the skin. Stress can also undermine the health of the skin in many other less obvious ways, which makes it one of the major causes of premature ageing.
When you are feeling stressed, even for a short period of time, essential nutrients are redirected from your skin to your vital organs, like your heart, brain and lungs. If you are living in chronic stress, your skin is deprived of essential nutrients for extended periods of time. So, the renewal of the skin is slowed down and is more likely to lose its naturally healthy glow.
The moisture levels within the layers of your skin are also undermined due to stress, which over time causes dehydration. This can lead to the collagen and elastin structures that support your skin becoming less effective ( it loses its bounce). As when the skin's supporting structure fails, skin becomes loose and begins to sag.
During this time, the skin is more prone to wrinkles and much more susceptible to environmental aggressors, such as pollution of free radicals. If feeling stressed for an extended period of time, our body may also release free radicals, which greatly increase oxidative damage to vital cellular structures of the skin.
You may not be able to eradicate stress from your life, but finding a good coping mechanism, such as exercise or meditation can definitely improve your emotional well-being and in turn the health of your bodies largest organ, your skin.
Since arriving on everybody's skincare wish-list a few years ago, Hyaluronic Acid has remained a ‘go to’ ingredient in our skincare regimes. So, does it measure up to its reputation?
Beauty experts certainly seem to think so.
When it comes to our skin we can be put off by the word ‘acid’ but Hyaluronic Acid has multiple skin-boosting benefits and in recent years has solidified itself as a skincare essential!
Our body naturally produces Hyaluronic Acid (HA), part of its superpower lies in its ability to hold up to 1,000 times its own size in moisture. No other biological substance can hold as much water as HA, just one gram can hold up to a litre of water - it’s a moisture magnet! Its one-of-a-kind ability to hold moisture allows our skin to absorb it effectively.
HA acts as a cushion to promote collagen production, provide elasticity and flexibility which keeps us looking and feeling young! As we age, our ability to naturally produce HA slows causing those telltale signs of ageing (fine lines and wrinkles). So, this is when HA works its magic! It helps our cells retain as much moisture as possible, leaving our skin feeling and appearing hydrated and healthy.
It gets better still! HA also uses its antioxidant properties to shield our skin from nasty free radicals, like pollution. Left unshielded, free radicals can damage healthy skin cells and bring about other skin problems such as redness, dryness and skin sensitivity.
There is no time like the present to incorporate HA into your skincare regime. Autumn and the frosty months are approaching and the air is becoming cooler and more dry, exposing our skin to a harsh and dehydrating environment. Its lightweight hydration is an effective yet gentle way of moisturising all skin types and replenishing your skin’s natural moisture levels.
Our Velvet Restore Sleep Complex reprograms skin’s future by boosting the production of essential proteins, collagen, HA and elastin, reducing wrinkle depth and improving your skin's texture and firmness.
We have used extra low weight HA, combining it with the powerful active ingredient Milk Peptide Complex (MPC), which promotes skin cell regeneration, giving visible results after just one use.
We delve into why Omegas are so important for skin health...
There are significant benefits to including OMEGAs in your skincare routine, they are termed as essential fatty acids (EFA)s and they are indeed essential in achieving optimum skin health.
Essential fatty acids are unable to be made by the body and therefore we need to supply them both internally and externally.
EFAs are a vital part of every cell in the body. They are a necessary component of the lipid film, coating the skin's surface. This film maintains moisture, softness and elasticity in the skin, as well as providing a protective barrier against the entry of disease-causing organisms and harmful bacteria. There are 11 omega fatty acids in total, but there are 4 that are vital for skin health; omega 3, 6, 7 and 9. By applying omegas topically, research has shown that they aid in the treatment and healing of skin conditions and significantly improve overall skin health.
Omega 3 (Alpha-linolenic acid) is found in fish oils, linseed oil, walnuts and avocados, to name a few. Is a polyunsaturated fatty acid that can make a big difference in rosacea, eczema and psoriasis as it helps maintain and boosts the lipid content of the skin´s natural barrier. It´s a great protector in severe weather conditions, by helping maintain moisture levels, therefore limiting loss of firmness and elasticity through dehydration.
Omega 6 (Linoleic acid) Found in many plant oils, it also has an anti-inflammatory effect so is soothing and calming on irritated skin. Omega 6 is used as a treatment for psoriasis and eczema as it helps repair the skin´s barrier, retaining moisture and improving elasticity within the layers of the skin.
Oils that are high in these fatty acids feel light and thin and as a result protect and moisturise the skin without feeling heavy.
Omega 7 (Palmitoleic acid) is the most active antimicrobial fatty acid in our skin, naturally fighting infection and bacteria. Omega 7 can help restore the skin´s natural omega balance, strengthen skin cells and aid in the healing of damaged cells. Topical application of Omega 7 is a great way to fight damage to the skin due to exposure to UV rays. Acting as an anti-melanogenic agent, this omega fights against changes in pigmentation and uneven complexion. This includes helping to counteract and repair discolouration, hyper-pigmentation and postmenopausal spots. Omega 7 is also a great source of moisture and nourishment for the skin. It contains anti-inflammatory properties and has been shown to calm and soothe while repairing and strengthening the skin through its moisturising properties.
You can get Omega 7 from sea buckthorn oils, which give the highest concentration of Omega 7 of any known natural source.
Omega 7 is absolutely fantastic for soothing dry skin conditions. Externally, it will provide the moisture needed to heal chapped, broken skin and provide a healthy barrier to lock this moisture in.
Hydration is truly the key to youthful and beautiful skin and omega 7 certainly delivers it. Omega 7 will also help protect against wrinkles and loss of elasticity for skin that glows with radiant youthfulness.
Finally Omega 9 (Oleic Acid) which is found in linseed, soyabean and sunflower oils. These oils are slightly thicker and have a richer consistency. Omega 9 is easily absorbed and able seal moisture into our skin effectively, whilst having substantial anti-inflammatory properties, so great for use after exposure to UV rays or if you have very dry skin.
The topical application of EFA´s can have a number of really positive effects. The most important being, boosting lipid content and the repair of the skin´s barrier function. This helps protect delicate skin, improve moisture levels and helps the skin retain its own moisture, which all leads to improved softness and elasticity.
All in all, a group of skincare heroes for us all!
Our Elixir Extraordinaire Dry Oil Mist contains Omega 6 & 7, plus Inca Inchi Oil, a powerful anti-ageing ingredient rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin E and Amino Acids.
It restores moisture balance, limits dehydrating and helps to strengthen and rebuild your skin´s natural barriers. Antioxidant and anti-ageing properties. Conditions and protects, leaving your skin soft and supple. Incredibly lightweight, this dry oil is absorbed easily into the skin. Helps diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and stretch marks.
We all know that quality of sleep can have a big impact on how our skin behaves, but getting a good nights sleep in this weather can be very difficult.
Have you tried a reverse hot water bottle? Fill a hot water bottle two thirds full and leave in the freezer during the day. Take it out just before bed and it will help to keep you cool during the night.
It's a good idea to change your bedding more frequently than usual. It's just a fact that we will all sweat and shed more skin during these hot nights. Switch over your bedding regularly to ensure your skin is next to clean fabrics.
Your body's optimum time to repair and restore is whist you are sleeping. Give this process a big boost by applying our Velvet Restore Sleep Complex, to your neck, chest and decolletage before you sleep. This deeply nourishing formula, repairs and aids skin cell regeneration. It contains MPC™ Milk Peptide Complex, Hyaluronic Acid, the advanced moisture delivery system of SalSphere® AquaSkin, and a complex of vitamins help prevent the signs of premature ageing.
Warmer days and nights mean higher levels of perspiration too, which can cause skin redness and blemishes. Use products that are gentle and rich in antioxidants to help cleanse and protect the skin.
Hydrate & Nourish
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!
The simple act of removing dead or dull skin cells, prevents debris from building up in your pores and blocking them. Blocked pores struggle to remove excess oil from the skin, which can then lead to skin irritations or acne. Regular exfoliation is part of a healthy skincare routine throughout the year, but in the warmer summer months it is important that our skin is able to absorb, both moisture and protection effectively.
Once the pores have been unblocked and the dead skin removed your moisturisers and serums will absorb directly into the dermis and you will enjoy the full benefit of the active ingredients.
Using a gentle exfoliator regularly on the neck and décolletage can diminish existing lines and wrinkles and prevent new ones from forming. An exfoliator containing AHA´s dissolves the bond between the new and dead skin cells and is an extremely gentle way to get silky smooth skin, without any irritation.
Our gentle resurfacing polish contains:
Lime Pearl™ is a natural source of AHAs extracted from the precious native Australian Caviar Lime. This deep pore cleansing fruit acid extract, provides gentle skin exfoliation for smoother brighter and even toned skin.
Jojoba spheres provide gentle physical exfoliant action, removing dead skin cells. A combination of three types of Vitamin B help maintain optimum skin health - Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) The Energiser plays an important role in cellular energy production, Calcium Pantothenate (Vitamin B5) The Moisturiser, maintains moisture levels within the skin and Pyridoxin (Vitamin B6) The Cell Activator, stimulates cell growth.
Vitamin E The Protector, protects your skin from environmental pollution and helps prevent the signs of premature ageing plus Vitamin C The Protective Corrector, the anti-ageing superstar, key in the synthesis of elastin and collagen.
The physical particles contained in this polish are 200 Microns in size and fit inside the pores, making them very effective. The smaller and smoother the physical particles are the better, when you are dealing with the more delicate areas of the body.

When we cast our eye down a product´s ingredient list we are comforted by the names of active ingredients we are familiar with. There are lots of other ingredient names that mean little to us, but we are happily drawn the ones we know or have heard about.
We probably aren't thinking about inclusion levels or if that level is sufficient to make that all important difference?
Stellar Décolletage have taken the guesswork out of ingredient combinations, the active ingredients in our products are formulated to work at their optimum when used together. Our actives are ACTIVE. We have carefully combined professional grade active ingredients with hard working naturals, to give the results you are looking for.
In our Velvet Restore Sleep Complex we chose to use SalSphere Aquaskin, a time release moisture delivery system containing Caffeine, which stimulates the deeper levels of the dermis playing a critical role in maintaining skin hydration levels, barrier function and overall skin health. It provides immediate and long term hydration benefits.
The SalSphere Aquaskin also contains Seaweed, which is packed full of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and potent anti-oxidants. This natural ingredient has anti-ageing properties that smooth and nourish the skin whilst fighting hyper-pigmentation and preventing water loss.
In addition to the vitamins in the SalSphere Aquaskin we added a perfect combination of skin loving vitamins to energise and activate the skin cells:
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) The Energiser, Calcium Pantothenate (Vitamin B5) The Moisturiser, Pyridoxin (Vitamin B6) The Cell Activator, Vitamin E The Protector and Vitamin C The Protective Corrector.
The absolute HERO active ingredient in our Velvet Restore Sleep Complex is Milk Peptide Complex MPC, it regenerates, skulpts and tones the skin from within.
MPC reduces visible signs of ageing by encouraging the synthesis of collagen, elastin, fibronectin and hyaluronic acid, the protein building blocks that support the skin. MPC makes the skin firmer and improves elasticity. In addition, it reduces wrinkle depth significantly, quickly and effectively, improving the structure of damaged or thinning skin. Re-programming the skin´s future whilst you sleep.
Whilst MPC stimulates the natural production of hyaluronic acid within the skin, for maximum moisture boost we also included Extra Low Weight molecule HA to the formulation. The result being, as the new skin is forming and protein building blocks are being renewed, our Velvet Restore is nourishing and hydrating at time release intervals throughout the night.
Our award winning Velvet Restore Sleep Complex is in an opaque, airless dispenser, making sure that the active ingredients remain 100% active to the very last drop.

"We tried this. It works” THE BEAUTY SHORTLIST 2018
Stellar Décolletage are very proud to be the proud recipient of FIVE Beauty Shortlist Awards this year.
Whilst there isn't an absolute definition, clean beauty embraces both natural and synthetic ingredients, putting the focus on ingredient performance and safety over source. In short clean means thoughtfully formulated with no harmful chemical ingredients.
Natural things can be toxic. Poison ivy and arsenic are both natural! Clean is about nontoxic, meaning that there are no ingredients in the formulation that have been linked to harmful health effects such as cancers or hormone disruption. People don´t realise that something can be marketed as "natural" when actually only 1% of the product actually could be. Most people are shocked to hear that their favourite products could contain toxic ingredients.
Most clean beauty products will avoid the use of ingredients like Parabens, Sulphates, Mineral Oil, Palm Oil, Silicon, Lanolin, SD Alcohol, Plastic Microbeads, Formaldehyde and most recently Mica, while still delivering high performance.
Each clean product ingredient should be included to perform a particular function, not change colour, shimmer, block our pores or cause skin irritation.
Full ingredient transparency is on the rise and brands that provide this are gaining in popularity. Beauty consumers are enjoying having confidence and knowledge that products they are using are formulated specifically to exclude any potentially toxic ingredients.
In 2017 demand for "clean" beauty products lead to a 10 percent growth rate in the clean beauty market, versus just 3.8 percent growth for conventional brands, many of which are using unsustainable petro- chemicals. Beauty retailers big and small are responding to the demand.
The good news is, a recent study, led by researchers from the University of California, Berkeley, showed that it is possible to reduce our body´s burden of certain potentially harmful chemicals - in as little as three days, simply by avoiding products known to contain them.
Look at a brands 'Free From' policy, and product ingredient lists to build a picture of what has been included and (just as importantly) left out of the products you use.
Creating Clean Beauty products has always been key part of the Stellar Décolletage ethos. It was at the forefront of our minds when developing our unique formulas for this delicate area of the body. All of our products are free from Parabens, Sulphates, Mineral Oil, Palm Oil, Silicon, Lanolin, SD Alcohol, Plastic Microbeads, Formaldehyde and Mica.
Enjoy using the Stellar Décolletage regime, knowing you are being kind to your skin.
As with hands, your neck can give your age away faster than a glance at your passport. Even smooth-skinned British beauties tend to ignore what happens below the chin-line – in fact, for many women, a cursory swipe with moisturiser constitutes neck care. The result? Sagginess, wrinkles, tell-tale crêpiness. In short, a neck and décolletage that looks older than the rest of you.
Yet on the Continent, it’s a different story. There, the neck is an erogenous zone, on which TLC is regularly lavished. The result? Necks that stay firmer, smoother and more swan-like for longer. As Paris-based facialist Jickie Leray explains, ‘French women regard their neck and décolletage as an extension of their faces. So everything they do for their face – cleansing, protecting, ritually moisturising – is extended right down to the bust-line.’ And if your new beauty resolution is to take more care of your neck, that’s a pretty good blueprint.
As we age, growth hormone production drops - oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels fall, leaving the skin less able to repair and regenerate itself. The slowing down of collagen production from your 30s onwards also affects the feel and appearance of skin.
The delicate skin of the neck, breast and décolletage is unique, it has more in common with facial skin than the skin of the body. Skin in this area is thin and constantly under stresses from gravity, movement, abrasion and perspiration. It has fewer oil glands and therefore pores here remain smaller and more narrow.
Active ingredients have traditionally been associated with our facial skincare products and up until now the décolletage has been largely ignored by both traditional skin and body care regimes.
Award winning STELLAR DÉCOLLETAGE products effectively target wrinkle depth, loss of firmness and elasticity, hyper-pigmentation, stretch marks, uneven skin tone, and restore the natural moisture balance within the layers of the skin.
The French word décolleté, literally translates to “wearing a low-neck dress.” If you’ve been defaulting to turtlenecks because of a less than perfect ´neck and dec´, get ready to take the plunge thanks to our new products and treatments for a resurfaced, smoother and firmer décolletage.
Treat your décolletage with the same care as you treat your face. Use products that contain active ingredients and use an SPF whatever the season.
- Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate, at least twice a week. Use a polish or exfoliator that has flexible, gentle particles that are no more than 300 microns in size, or below for this delicate area of the body.
- Make sure the products you use on your décolletage contain an antioxidant, for example, vitamin B3, vitamin C, vitamin E. Antioxidants protect the skin from free radicals and pollution, whilst protecting the collagen within the skin.
- Don´t skip the water, keep the skin hydrated from the inside out. We suggest 8 medium glasses per day.
- Change your sleeping position, sleep on your back as much as possible. Gravity and differing sleep positions can lead to creases in your décolletage forming over time.
- Moisturise your décolletage daily, after exfoliation will give optimum results that last all day.
- Do not spray fragrance directly onto the chest, stick to the pulse points.
- Get as much sleep as possible, aiming for a target 8 hours. Skin repairs itself overnight, the more sleep, the more time the skin has to regenerate.
- Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. Your skin needs to repair itself from the inside too, a balance of greens and fruits will give your skin essential nutrients and keep it healthy.
- Add a few superfoods to your diet, turmeric, avocado, blueberries or salmon for an extra skin loving vitamin boost.
- a change in size or shape
- a lump or area that feels thicker than the rest of the breast
- a change in skin texture such as puckering or dimpling (like the skin of an orange)
- redness or rash on the skin and/or around the nipple
- your nipple has become pulled in or looks different, for example changed its position or shape
- liquid that comes from the nipple without squeezing
- pain in your breast or your armpit that’s there all or almost all of the time
- a swelling in your armpit or around your collarbone
If you notice a change, it is important to see your GP as soon as you can.
British Vogue, The Times and Women´s Health have all published articles in recent weeks, examining the necessity of skincare formulated specifically for the neck and décolletage.
It has been a hot topic in the US and the number of skincare brands providing products for this area of the body has risen significantly in the last two years.
And now, we are catching up!
Breast and décolletage skin is different from the skin on the rest of your body, it is thinner and more delicate, containing less oil glands. It is constantly under stress from gravity, movement, abrasion and perspiration, ageing on average three years faster too!
From your 30´s onwards hormone production drops (oestrogen, progesterone and yes, testosterone!), leaving your skin less able to repair and regenerate itself. The slowing down of collagen and elastin production from your 30´s onwards, affects the feel and appearance of your skin.
A lot of women only start to notice this part of the body once they have an issue. Fine lines, sun damage, stretch marks and hyper- pigmentation are the main concerns of women over 30, with deeper lines being the primary concern of women over 45.
STELLAR DÉCOLLETAGE products are formulated specifically for this delicate area of the body. Advanced skincare with active ingredients that effectively target these concerns.
Your perfect underwear!
In 2017, our skin is facing unprecedented challenges and the industry is peddling to keep up with emerging trends such as ‘tech-neck’, heightened interest in mono-tasking and now urban skin stress.
Pollution has long been an issue grasping the headlines and now we are finding out the affect that urban skin stress is actually having on our skin. Most of us live in an environment with higher pollution levels than recommended - which poses the question, what does this do to my skin?
Harmful particles found in the air (e.g. from car exhausts) can rest on your skin causing irritation and potential chemical damage. If exposed over a long period of time, these airborne molecules can lead to ‘accelerated ageing’. So, what is being done?
The beauty industry works fiercely to meet the market’s needs as the idea of ‘urban skin stress’ gains momentum, with few results available from mainstream sources as of yet. Your skin is unique, reacting to pollution in specific ways personal to you - making it difficult for the industry to develop a one product solution. So, what can you do in the mean time?
A key concept to take away from this is the importance of skin preservation. Nourishing, hydrating and protecting your skin has never been more important. Well preserved and nourished skin provides the perfect natural barrier against harmful airborne particles which is the best defence!
Why do we need vitamin C for our skin?
Vitamin C is a key anti-ageing skincare ingredient that helps to gently brighten, smooth and even out your skin tone. It's one of the most powerful antioxidants that help to protect your skin against free radical damage caused by the environment, which can breakdown your collagen and encourage fine lines and wrinkles to appear.
Vitamin C is key in the synthesis of collagen and elastin, the structural building blocks of our skin. Both collagen and elastin are naturally occurring proteins in our bodies that diminish as we age, they play a very important role and are responsible for maintaining the strength and elasticity of skin.
Elastin, as the name suggests is the body´s `elastic´, it allows skin to resume it´s shape after being stretched. So, the vitamin C in your skincare products plays a key part in encouraging the production of elastin in your skin.
Vitamin C can help prevent skin damage and restore skin after it has been damaged, it is an all round, skin loving, superstar ingredient.
Keep in mind that all antioxidants, including vitamin C, remain vulnerable, and will break down if routinely exposed to air and light. That means if you want to get the best possible results from your antioxidant-enriched skincare products, then buy only those that are packaged in opaque tubes, air-restrictive bottles, or pump containers so the ingredients remain stable after you start using the product!
Any vitamin C product in a clear glass jar or bottle isn´t a good purchase!

Wonderful to see our Luminous Perfector Treatment Polish feature in the Times Magazines round up of top products for the neck and décolletage.
As beauty journalist Lesley Thomas highlighted, summer 2017 is all about the décolletage. We were delighted to feature in Lesley´s selection.
Hello, I'm Helen Erichsen and I'd like to introduce you to STELLAR DÉCOLLETAGE the first skincare regime for the breast and décolletage.
I’ve been a self confessed product junkie and skincare enthusiast, for as long as I can remember. After living an outdoors lifestyle in Scandinavia for several years, I noticed that the harsh winters, beautiful summers and fjord dipping was starting to take it´s toll on my skin in general, but especially my décolletage. On trips home to the UK I stocked up on premium skincare products and oils, determined to find the perfect active ingredients that would rejuvenate and restore my skin.
I developed one particular regime that evolved over the years and used it regularly. I was hooked and convinced that other women would love these results too, and there it began.
It was simple, I wanted to create products for the breast and décolletage that absolutely worked. Products that were effective from the very first use.
After research, it seemed I was far from alone and over recent years there had been a number of other women searching for breast specific ´skincare´ products. Their concerns ranging from fine lines and loss of elasticity to lack of radiance and hyper pigmentation.
I enlisted the help of a beauty industry expert and formulation chemist and together we recreated and enhanced the regime, carefully choosing a combination of heavy weight actives to give amazing results.
It was essential that all the ingredients performed a role, nothing unnecessary, no sparkle, no colour. We wanted new and innovative ingredients that layered and worked well together. Ingredients that were skin loving and most importantly effective. It was very important that the active ingredients were included at high levels to give visible results.
The formulas combine high quality facial-grade active ingredients with hard-working naturals that improve skin texture, firmness and elasticity whilst maintaining optimum skin health of this delicate area.
STELLAR DÉCOLLETAGE is about revealing your glowing décolletage yet equally about loving the feeling of perfectly nourished and conditioned skin, whilst wearing your favourite white shirt.
